Quiet time…

Another day, another Starbucks (hot chocolate stylie).

It’s been a very busy week at home, and at work – although the time between the two seems to be blurring somewhat. Only a couple of days ago I woke up at 3am and wrote down some notes for a meeting on the following day!

I’ve completed the work on Justyn’s website now and it’s now "live" although there were a few niggly problems with iframe components and the new Firefox browsers – all fixed now. justyn has had a lot of feedback about the site already – all good :)

I really enjoy these "brain dumps" especially when I’m in a coffee shop (sorry Starbucks works just as well in Costa’s). I can spend a couple of hours watching the world go about it’s business, and I find it’s an excellent place to get idea’s down onto paper (yes that non-electronic format!) some of my best idea’s have been created here.

But onto later – going to see a film a bit later, Oceans 12. It has a lot to live upto I really enjoyed the previous one.

Got some other things I need to do, get some paper for Dad’s birthday present (photo printer), and try and sort out the problems with my MCE computer, otherwise it’s back to trusty Tivo! Oh – also want to move my laptops docking station so I can have the lid open – can’t at the moment, ‘cos it’s under a shelf.

So won’t be going out today, and I may see if I can work at home if it doesn’t get any better by Monday.

Getting there

Well, MCE2005 is installed and running on a new 160G HD – which MCE estimates to be about 51hrs of recording time. I noticed as I was leaving that the special "dongle" that allows MCE to control my Pace Cablebox.. Will try that out tonight.

Next I have to consider the physical location of the the MCE box, near the TV, but far from the cable box, or near to the cable box but far from the TV..

Have got Thursday off, as my parents cable box is paying up – Telewest supposedly fixed it on Monday — but it failed again 2hrs later, also said that my broadband connection needed "tweaking", but left not details or revisit date!

Time to go home ..

Fun weekend!

Interesting weekend..

1. Finally got my Windows MCE2005 running – sort of, I still need to get the eHome transceiver changing channels on my Telewest Di1000T cable box, at the moment MCE2005 is currently changing the channel via the TIVO – which sorts of defeats the object really.

2. We had a fire! in the porch, we had some candles sitting on a plastic trellis at about 9:15pm on Saturday the smoke detector on the 1st floor went off, so I went off to investigate (telling Mum to stay were she was). Nothing in the kitchen, but I then spotted an orange glow coming from behind the front door. I immediately got a bowl of water, and got my Dad to open the front door, and close it behind me.. continued with another 3 bowls, finally got the 2' flames under control. Used a spade to put the final remnants of the smouldering plastic, took quite a while to get the smoke out of the house! Really glad it didn't happen any later or perhaps early morning. A lesson for us all – ensure you have a WORKING smoke detector, they're cheap and they save lives!

3. Sunday, more work on the car – this time simply putting back together ready for transport. We decided that with this type of electrical problem it would be quicker to get it to a garage with a diagnostic system. Will try and get it shifted next week.

More news to come….
