Crazy Quake III Rocket Jumping
You ain’t ever seen no mad skillz like these, let me tell you. The video above shows a team of people doing some crazy rocket jumping in Quake III. They’re using God Mode, but whatever. Rocket jumping, for those who don’t know, is a special move you perform in the game by using the shockwave from an exploding rocket to propel yourself to otherwise unattainable heights.
The video has allegedly been around since 2004, but I’ve never seen it, and I think everyone should. It’s masterfully edited, though the real attraction is the mind numbingly impressive moves these people pull. Check it out, you’ll see what I mean.
Smart Diablo vs. Ferrari
Let me introduce, Peter Bee. Peter is a sensible English fellow who took a liking to the Smart Car as soon as it was introduced, so he bought one. He found the car so much to his liking that he kept on buying them, great second car, nice for running errands, quick scoots around town, all very sensible. Problem is, Pete spends his days around MHP, makers of high performance exhaust systems. When you constantly see high performance vehicles of various sorts and drive a Smart, you soon get the urge to tweak it a bit and Peter did just that. He managed to get the engine up to around 100hp which isn’t a bad jump from the 60hp in the stocker, but Pete wanted more.
After seeing nothing else in the option list he looked further afield and started thinking GSXR1000. He talked to the fellows over at Z Cars, you know them, R1 powered Mini’s and the like, and they said “Sure, we can do that.” So Peter dropped off a brand new Smart Car and the fun began. He also talked to Phil Seton of Seton Racing who took a look at a GSXR1000 engine and found room for improvement. The result? Peter’s own personal pleasure button, a way to send his bliss-o-meter straight into the red zone.
Z Cars had to build a separate frame to house the engine along with a Cosworth differential and complete independent rear suspension. Phil Seton massaged the GSXR until it was putting out a reliable 180hp. Peter built up a full race MHP titanium exhaust system and then created a handmade wiring harness to integrate all of the Suzuki’s engine controls along with the tach, the one that goes red around 13,000rpm. Spax made up a set of coil overs with full height and damping adjustments. Then, someone thought they might want to slow this beast down and they added full floating wavy rotors up front with 6 pot calipers and solid wavy rotors in the rear.
They call the finished car the Smartuki. It’s the only one in existence and Z Cars is planning to offer it as an option. Does it run? 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.4 seconds and tops out at 132mph. Definitely not your average Smart! Peter says running up to the traffic lights at 13,500rpm is always amusing since other drivers move over when they hear what sounds like a bike coming up fast. Autosport Magazine tested it against a Mistubishi Evo FQ-330. It didn’t win but fared better than the Subaru that tried a week earlier.
A few other features:
- One off LED lights in the rear
- A nice set of minilights
- All braided hoses throughout
- Brake bias with lock out for lighting the rear wheels
- Electronic shifter with full power shift ability
- Nice grill from Smarts R Us
- Full alarm with remote start and roof open and close

Segway Centaur Video Demo
Link: Gizmodo, The Gadget Guide.
The Segway Centaur is the newer, younger brother of the Segway that just about nobody—unless you’re Steve Wozniak or a Chicago beat cop—is riding. This four-wheeled Segway looks more stable than the previous one, even when it’s up on its hind wheels. The Centaur features a seat, handlebars, and the same type of engineering that went into the commercially unpopular Segway.
We have to say, it looks like it goes pretty fast and could be fun to ride. No chance at all seeing this on city sidewalks (maybe bike lanes?) though. Just a concept for now, so we probably won’t be seeing this for a few years at least. – Jason Chen
Yeah Right! Intro
| This is the intro to the skate video “Yeah Right!” by Girl/Chocolate. This is a slowmotion, up-close view of the skater’s boards while they do their tricks, set to an awesome background music. After the intro, it shows some of the best bits of the movie in fast-montage form, as well as the beginning of Brandon Beibel’s section, where he does a slam-dunk. This file is personally created by me. | |
Magic Board
| This is the “Magic Board” section of the skate video “Yeah Right!” by Girl/Chocolate. It shows a board that has a mind of its own, which is passed from skater, and on which are pulled some of the most awesome tricks of the video. Almost (if not all) Girl/Chocolate skaters have a cameo, and it is truly awesome to watch. A light R&B/hiphop song in the background fits perfectly with the tone. Worth a look, even if you’re not a skater. This file is personally created by me. | |
Invisible Board
| This is the "Invisible Board" section of the skate video "Yeah Right!" by Girl/Chocolate. The skaters were filmed skating on green boards, then the boards were edited out. It’s definitely one of the cooler portions of an all-around awesome movie. Even if you’re not a skater, you have to appreciate the cinematography, and just plain awesomeness. Amazing backgroud music as well. | |
Wired News: Park the Beamer by Bot
Link: Wired News: Park the Beamer by Bot.
Driving your car into a cramped parking space can be a harrowing experience, but BMW says it has developed a robotic parking system to solve the problem. The luxury carmaker’s parking-assist technology will park your car for you as you stand outside and watch, according to BMW during the demo of a working prototype at its Munich headquarters this week. All you do is press down on a remote-control button and your Beamer parks itself.
