Bristol day6: City Centre Tour
Posted by martin newham in Holidays, Travel on September 3, 2010
As today was my last (full) day in Bristol, I decided to stay in the city visiting some new landmarks and some old ones. My first visit was the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, a bit of a trek from the apartment…
… past the College Green,
… the Council House, up the hill…
Bristol day5: Stately Homes, Wookey Holes and Spooky Writings

Bit of a mix today, visited Blaise Castle House located within some amazing grounds – its now owned by Bristol Council (wonder if I got on the waiting list I could live there?).
Inside the rooms are divided into a number of different collections including; Victorian toys and clothes – those gentleman waistcoats were very snazzy!
Bristol day4: Steam-less and Bath
Posted by martin newham in Holidays, Travel on September 1, 2010
Today’s adventure went a little flat, I should have done my research first of course!
My first visit was to the Avon Valley Railway; a steam railway of course, but what I would have found out if I’d checked the timetable would be that there was no action today! A little disappointing to say the least, but my own fault – maybe next year.
With the extra time I now had I decided to head further East and onto Bath. I arrived about 2pm so there wasn’t much time to see everything so I went to find possibly the most most famous landmark; The Roman Baths.
Walked past this church (I think) at the junction of Northgate Street and Walcot Loop Street but can#t find out what its called…
Bristol day3: Victorian and Gothic

Today I was retracing some steps form earlier on in the year…
… Millennium Square…
… over Pero’s Bridge and a quick scoot around the Arnofini Gallery across the bridge at Price Street and along the quay side towards the SS Great Britain. En route I just had to take some pictures of those fantastic quay side cranes…
Bristol day2: Caves of giants

From the harbour side in Bristol I travelled South-West to Cheddar and the famous Gorge and Caves. So what of the giants? When you travel the road, its easy to feel dwarfed by the sheer size of the gorge, you can see from the pictures how tall (or deep) the gorge is.
Bristol day1: Arrival at the penthouse
Posted by martin newham in Holidays, Travel on August 29, 2010
Well, I’ve arrived once again in Bristol. This time rather than staying at a hotel I thought I’d stay in a penthouse apartment! I’ll have to say its very nice; on the 7th floor with a full length veranda/balcony where you can see the SS Great Britain, Millennium Square and the Cathedral.

IoW 2010: Final Cut
Posted by martin newham in Holidays, Travel on April 15, 2010
Well, been off sick for the past couple of days so I’ve gone through the 3,000 pictures I took (yes I found the “burst” mode on the camera) and here are the best, 64 in fact.
.. you can see the best of the rest (not all 3,000) at Flickr here..
IoW day12: Batteries not included

Typical! best day weather wise and it’s my last day!
Wasn’t sure what to do today, so coming out of the hotel car park I decided to turn left (I always turn right). Followed the road and ended up at Alum Bay, home of the coloured sands.
It’s true it’s not the first (or second) time I’ve been there, but its a very beautiful place looking down to The Needles.
IoW day11: Botanic Discovery
Posted by martin newham in Holidays, Travel on April 7, 2010
Weather looked a bit dodgy today, the forecast was poor so I thought I’d go somewhere relatively protected from the elements, Ventnor Botanic Gardens in you guessed it… Ventnor.
I’d been here before, but later in the year. It was obvious that the gardens were hit hard during the winter, a lot of the tropical plants outside looked as if they had suffered the most. Needless to say heartier plants had only just started to begin to raise their heads.
Spent the day practicing some shots, distance, arty, macro – you know what I mean, as always I would like some comments/suggestions on my work..
