IoW 2011; Day1. Good Journey, Good Speed

Today I started my regular trip to the Isle of Wight (IoW), leaving at around 09:30, I took a slow drive down to Southampton – taking the advice from a friend I slipped the cruise control on and locked it to about 57mph. I was surprised to discover that the MPG went up by such a degree. Typically 31.5mpg, the Mini average increased to 47.9mpg!

Bristol day7: Say Goodbye

Once again it was time to go, with a tear in my eye I said goodbye to the amazing apartment located in the heart of the Harbourside complex. It’s true, a crap hotel, B&B or apartment can really spoil your whole holiday but this one only enhanced the whole experience.

Bristol day6: City Centre Tour

As today was my last (full) day in Bristol, I decided to stay in the city visiting some new landmarks and some old ones. My first visit was the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, a bit of a trek from the apartment…

Bristol day4: Steam-less and Bath

Today’s adventure went a little flat, I should have done my research first of course!

My first visit was to the Avon Valley Railway; a steam railway of course, but what I would have found out if I’d checked the timetable would be that there was no action today! A little disappointing to say the least, but my own fault – maybe next year.

With the extra time I now had I decided to head further East and onto Bath. I arrived about 2pm so there wasn’t much time to see everything so I went to find possibly the most most famous landmark; The Roman Baths.

Walked past this church (I think) at the junction of Northgate Street and Walcot Loop Street but can#t find out what its called…

Bristol day2: Caves of giants

From the harbour side in Bristol I travelled South-West to Cheddar and the famous Gorge and Caves. So what of the giants? When you travel the road, its easy to feel dwarfed by the sheer size of the gorge, you can see from the pictures how tall (or deep) the gorge is.

Bristol day1: Arrival at the penthouse

Well, I’ve arrived once again in Bristol. This time rather than staying at a hotel I thought I’d stay in a penthouse apartment! I’ll have to say its very nice; on the 7th floor with a full length veranda/balcony where you can see the SS Great Britain, Millennium Square and the Cathedral.
