Bristol 2011: Heavens Above
Bristol is a very friendly place it would seem, even the trees smile as you walk past..
… this was today’s challenge, Cabot Tower – reopened this year after spending a shed load of money on the renovation..
Bristol2011 pt2: Victorian Gothic
I won’t bore you with a lot of words today as I’ve been here before and its just as beautiful as before. The grounds of Blaise Castle House are amazing as ever and from the pictures I think you’ll agree.

From Blaise Castle House which is owned and maintained by Bristol Council to Tyntesfield which is owned and maintained by the National Trust.
It’s Victorian Gothic style is something I love… you may have guessed?
Real people creating intricate lace work.. wow!
… an amazing couple of sites, fantastic photo opportunities and worth a visit every time.
Bristol2011 pt2: M Shed & Arnos Vale Cemetery
This will be my third visit to Bristol and its been a long wait for the M-Shed to open. It’s described as “… an exciting and innovative new museum for Bristol that tells the story of our city” true in may aspects; it depicts the places and the people of Bristol through a number of floors with a event gallery on the top floor. Its great for all ages, with historic insight and loads to interactive exhibits for the youngsters.
It’s easy to find; look for the steam train and the four huge cranes which not only perform a substantial landmark but also a historic stamp to Bristol’s heritage.
Bristol2011 pt2: Breezy Brizzle
I can’t say it was a peaceful night; the high winds were only compounded by being on the 7th floor and there were a lot of rattles and thuds going on outside and inside the apartment!
.. the morning was wet, windy and gloomy – to be honest the pictures you see here are about midday when it cleared up a bit.
Decided to venture out after having a lazy morning, you can see by the waves on the floating harbour that it was still very windy. I did have some amusement as many of the pigeons really couldn’t handle the strength of the wind; they just couldn’t win. On the ground they were being blown about and when they did venture skywards they must have reached MACH1 – fastest I’ve ever seen one fly!
With the M Shed finally open the train can venture all the way back past the cranes, surprisingly it was going up and down although empty. I was a little disappointed to discover that most of the museums and galleries are closed on Mondays, so will have to postpone to later on in the week.
Bristol2011 pt2: Returned
I’ve returned to one of my favourite places, Bristol City!
I’m back at the same penthouse apartment, I’ll have to admit it’s quite ‘low key’ to say the least! Of course it could be due to the fact that the lights in the ‘office’ area aren’t working – tends to make blogging a touch tricky.
Costa, Tesco’s, Pizza Express and HOOTERS! all in a stones throw – perfect!
Bristol2011, day7. Rain, Markets & Nails
It wasn’t a surprise to wake to rain this morning; the balcony parameter it made from steel so its was a bit noisy from time to time through the night.
Thankfully it stopped around 11am, so I was off to look at the local markets…
Bristol2011, day6. Spike Island, Aardman & Harbours End
Too this shot late on day5, the harbour as you can see is a magical place at night.
… end to a great day! But what holds for the next day? click to find out.
Bristol2011, day5. Towers, Georgian & Tudors
No driving today, just walking – admittedly the round trip isn’t far, but I would consider it one of the highest parts in Bristol.
… it was a trek, with side streets with silly gradients. Reaching Brandon Hill, a public park itself quite high was just the start!
Bristol2011, day 4. Tyntesfield House
Damn, I had a lazy day today didn’t actually get out of the apartment until midday! Needless to say I did have a plan – to visit Tyntesfield House.
There are some Photosynth panoramic shots later in the post, hopefully they’ll work ok.
Bristol2011, day3. Clifton, Caves & Kats
I feel lucky that the weather although breezy has been overall good for my visit. Again you can see the bright clear morning that greeted me this morning.
… my journey today was to the Clifton area, home of the worlds first suspension bridge designed and built by Brunel.
