Saturdays Movie
Today movie is "Stealth", a crack team of three US Airforce pilots flying state of the art hardware, only to be joined by a fourth – a plane with an A.I. pilot that knows everything they do – the perfect pilot? Maybe, but after getting hit by lightning the A.I. Pilot takes on another darker personality.
Conclusion: The concept of the film is simple, and I’m sure it’s been used many times in the likes of "Airwolf" and "Knight Rider" so it was only a matter of time before this to be applied to a US Airforce plane — brings new light to the term "Friendly Fire"!
A must admit the story was interesting, with the Aircraft "Ed" effectivly having its circuits re-written by a stray bolt of lightning seemingly removing it’s ability to follow orders .. hmmm
The images and graphics in the movie were excellent, but nothing we shouldn’t expect from today’s technology.
The film is worth seeing at the cinema, but in my mind certainly not one of the summers hits.
Will he? Will he.. Willy Wonka?
Yes, this weekends movie is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" starring Johnny Depp, and directed by Tim Burton. I really thought I might be a little old for this one – it’s true I may of been one of the oldest people in there but I really thought it was a bit…. dark.
Conclusion: This is a real fun movie to see, Johnny Depp plays an excellent WIlly Wonka. The movie definatly has a dark streak running through the whole way through. It delves deeper into Wonka’s troubled past interesting! See it! young and old.. I enjoyed it, but people do say I’m just a big kid!
Ready to go…

Ok, in the queue now, lots of kids.. Big and small
Conclusion: We have a winner! This is by far the best action movies this year. I recommend it whole heartedly. I feel this is certainly not the last we will be seeing of the Fantastic Four. With Spiderman and now F4 – Marvel Comics just can’t stop (ok, we won’t mention the Hulk!).
Great film SEE IT NOW!
1, 2, 3… Fantastic 4
Film: Madagascar
Will this cartoon jaunt from New York to Madagascar be fun, or will the kids be screaming "are we there yet?" – time will tell.
Conclusion: This was a fun movie, I would recommend the film for kids, young and old. The animation was fantastic, another "Shrek" — undoubtedly.
Week Movie: War of the Worlds
Well, this weekend it’s time to save the world (again) – or are we already to late? I’m going to see the 2005 release of "War of the Worlds". A story originally written by H. G. Wells who lived in Woking, Surrey In the UK. In this "Americanised" version, the attack focuses on the USA (surprise, surprise).. As always I’ll post my comments after the film..
Below is some background information about the original story;
"Woking was home to author H.G. Wells, who had the Martians in The War of the Worlds land on Horsell Common which is close to the town centre. There is a statue of a (Wellsian) Martian in the town centre. The word author has several meanings: The author of a book, story, article or the like, is the person who has written it (or is writing it). … H. G. Wells at the door of his house at Sandgate Herbert George Wells (September 21, 1866 – August 13, 1946) was an English writer best known for his science fiction novels such as The War of the Worlds and The Time Machine. … The name Martian is given to the hypothetical native inhabitants of the planet Mars. … Herbert George Wells An early science fiction novel, The War of the Worlds (1898), by H.G. Wells, describes the fictional turn of the twentieth century invasion of Earth by aliens, from Mars, who use laser/maser-like Heat-Rays, chemical weapons (the Black Smoke), and mechanical three-legged fighting… Horsell in Surrey is a village on the outskirts of Woking, probably best known because of its association with the story the War of the Worlds, written by H G Wells. … "
Conclusion: Well, it followed bit’s of the original story a fair attempt. The action was consistent throughout although not of a high calibre. Not the best action movie I’ve seen this year – but hey, see it yourself and make your own choice.
I think I’m turning Chinese..?
This weeks film is "Kung Fu Hustle. A combination of Matrix, Enter the Dragon and Shang Hi Surprise? Time will tell – let you know after the movie..
Conclusion: Wow! Go and see this film – it’s the best film I’ve seen this year so far.
Although the whole film was in Chinese with subtitles there wasn’t a lot dialogue/reading to do – just enough to understand what was going on. It’s the first time for a long, long time that the audience in the cinema were laughing, cheering and gasping at some of the more gruesome attacks.
The movie was one of the most enjoyable I’ve seen this year. The chase scene between the "hero" and the "fat lady" was hilarious. You simply have to see the film to appreciate it…
And so it begins…

Big screens outside show whats going on in each of the cinema screens, not that busy this time of day.
Just getting ready to start the movie. Let you know what I think of Batman Begins a bit later…
Conclusion: Well, it certainly was a wild ride – this exciting peaks, and dramatic…. yawns!
I guess like all prequels, it’s a case of setting the scene for the following movies? OK fine but in this case it was simply.. toooo long. Although there was some excellent action at the start of the movie, it never really got going until the second half. Really enjoyed the 2nd part of the movie, but the history of Bruce Wayne is a bit of a yawn.. But go and see it – as always I insist you make your own mind up, if you disagree – post your comments!
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
This weekends movie? – Why it’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Will let you know what I think of the movie a bit later on.
Conclusion: What a great film, comedy, action, car chase, and lots of explosions – the perfect recipe for a great film
Go see it..!!
3-2-1 Sin City awaits..
Today I’m at my #2 cinema: Vue in the Grants Centre, Croydon.
Film about to start so I’ll let you know my thoughts later…
Conclusion: It was an enjoyable film (18 rated) which was split into a a number of short stories linked by a common theme i.e. baSIN CITY. All the stories were in a b/w comic type vision, which just single subtle colours high lighted in the frame, with the dynamic angles and depth of cinematography it really draws you into the photo novel styling of the whole picture.
I would recommend you see it at the cinema, and viewing it on the small screen just wouldn’t be the same.
