Superman… Returns (again)

04superman

Synopsis: Having been absent from earth for several years, Superman (newcomer Brandon Routh) returns to the planet only to find that much has changed. His oldest adversary Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) has dastardly plans for world domination, while former love Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with her life and even has a child of her own. As he battles to save the planet, the Man of Steel must also therefore embark on a journey of self-discovery and redemption.

Conclusion: Wow! I had a lot of expectations of this movie, as the movie started – I wondered to myself, am I in the wrong movie? The guy who did the credits at the start obviously wanted to do the intro for Star Wars! Flying through trenches down into an exhaust vent.. weird..

Overall the movie was very typical superhero flick; should I expect anything less? yes I guess I should, XMEN-3 had lots of twists and turns and Superman Returns although a good film had no real surprises.

Go and see it, but don’t expect too much from it.

Yo-Ho-Yo-Ho (Pt2)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Piratesofthecaribbean_posters_piratesoft

Synopsis: A tale of adventure set during the 17th Century in the Caribbean Sea. For the roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow, the crystalline waters of the Caribbean, like the high seas the world over, present a vast playground where adventure and mystery abound. But Jack’s idyllic life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa, steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the Governor’s beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Swann. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Will Turner, joins forces with Jack to commandeer the fastest ship in the British fleet, the HMS Interceptor, in a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl. The duo and their crew are pursued by Elizabeth’s betrothed, the debonair, ambitious Commodore Norrington, aboard the HMS dauntless. Unbeknownst to Will, there is a curse that has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead–when exposed to moonlight, they are exposed to living skeletons. The curse they carry can be broken, only if a once-plundered treasure is restored.

Conclusion:Captain Jack is back! – what a great film, although like the seas of nature it had it’s up’s and down’s – typically the action was high, fantastic effects and stunts. Humour is rife, and Johnny Depp camps up his potrayal of Capt. Jack as he tip-toes through some of the scenes – my favourite being the watermill section.. barrels of fun.. go see it you won’t be disapointed. Pt.3? guarenteed with the return of an "Old" friend!!!

Justmyluck

Synopsis: Manhattan socialite, Ashley is the luckiest person in New York. Until, one night she goes to a masquerade ball and meets, Jake. Jake on the other hand has the worst luck. After kissing Jake, Ashley is horrified to find out that she and Jake swapped luck.

Conclusion: "Just My Luck", it was a chick flick! – still at least I was in the cool air conditioned cinema… Overall it was good I suppose, seemed more like a "McFly" video, they were heavily featured..

Out of my tree and ‘Over The Hedge’

Overthehedge Out of my tree and 'Over The Hedge'

Yes, the worldcup has started and I’ve decided to watch a movie at the cinema – I’m getting worldcup updates via text messages though..

Synopsis: Traveling raccoon con artist, RJ (Willis), arrives in a woods outside a human city in the Midwest, excited about the wonders that living near humans can bring hungry animals. What he finds, however, is an Amish-like community that is deathly afraid of humans, after their leader, Vern the tortoise (Shandling), has an encounter with human boys that terrifies him. Encouraged by RJ, however, the animals slowly venture over the hedge that separates them from the brand new suburban development that appeared over the winter while they were sleeping, and what RJ shows them is a whole new world where humans leave tin cans full of fish and other food in big canisters, ripe for the taking. As they get closer and closer to humans, however, their comfortable lives in the woods appears to be threatened…

Conclusion: Yes, its another DreamWorks creation – following the lines of all the others, good for kids, interesting characters (almost) – Ok, it worked for Shriek, lets think of something new now shall we?

The Thief Lord, at the movies

13131

Sysnopsis: Thief Lord is a magical tale about two young boys, Prosper and Bo, who flee to Venice after being orphaned. Hiding in the canals and alleyways of the city, the boys are befriended by a gang of young urchins and their enigmatic leader, the Thief Lord. The children steal from the rich to support themselves and soon capture the interest of a bumbling detective. However, a greater threat to the children is something from a forgotten past – a beautiful magical treasure with the power to spin time itself…

Thoughts: Well here’s a turn up for the books, I’m in Bluewater watching a movie. The ‘small screen’ is bigger than the large one in Croydon – and the seats are great… Oh and the movie – meh!

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Xmen3

Synopsis: The all-star cast returns in this action filled third feature in the X-Men franchise. A cure for genetic mutations has been discovered by humans, which both divides and confuses the mutants. Magneto responds by starting a revolution to protect mutants from elimination, while Professor Xavier argues that they should compromise with the government. The situation is complicated by the unexpected resurrection of Dr. Jean Grey, who has been consumed by the powers of the Dark Phoenix and become an imminent threat to the world. It is left to the X-Men to prevent a war to end all wars.

Conslusion: Wow! what a film, the perfect end – or is it simply the start of a… no that would spoil the movie. All the best XMen were back, with some new faces including the winged "Angel", and VInnie Jones playing the Juggernault – a perfect choice.

This movies certainly has some surprises in it, with a number of key characters loosing their mutant powers, and the deaths of 3 key characters! Wow! go see it, and when it comes out on DVD buy that too!!!

Gets you thinking…

Davincicodethe

Synopsis: Symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) receives an urgent late-night call while on business in Paris. The curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum and police have found a cryptic cipher near his dead body. While working to solve the enigmatic puzzle with the help of French cryptologist Sophie Neveu, Langdon is astonished to discover that it leads to a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo Da Vinci.

Conclusion: It’s a great movie that leaves you thinking – there is a line towards the end of the film which when spoken by Tom caused laughter in the cinema, it was strange but it wasn’t a funny line – when you hear it you’ll know.

The presentation of the story was great, the effects (yes there were some) were dramatic and complemented the film perfectly – I particullly enjoyed the mixture of new and old in the centre of London.. It’s not everyones cup of tea (with lemon…) but go see it – it’ll make yuo think…

Alien Autopsy – the MOVIE (2006)

Alienautopsy

Synopsis: Back in 1995, Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield unveiled footage that purported to show the dissection of an extra-terrestrial. Of course the film – which, these two friends from Hackney claimed, was shot by the US military in 1947 – was as fake as a three-quid note, but for a time it was jumped on by media outlets everywhere as ‘proof’ of alien existence. ‘Alien Autopsy’ plays this real-life hoax for laughs, depicting Ray and Gary as a couple of chancers straight out of ‘Only Fools and Horses’. ITV1’s Ant and Dec make a credible big-screen debut as the pair, essentially shoehorning their affable light-entertainment selves into the lead roles. They, and we, have most fun during the fake autopsy shoot, a beautifully deadpan sequence in a cramped suburban living room involving a modified shop dummy with a haggis for a brain and biscuit breaks for the crew provided by Gary’s nan. If the sitcom-style approach feels contrived – were the media really all that gullible? – this is still a likeable, wry little movie. Besides, the real-life Ray and Gary are hardly ones to complain about factual accuracy.

Conclusion: What a wheeze, filmed in the style of a documentary the story slowly reveals how Gary Shoefield and Ray Santilli came across the autopsy film while searching for Elvis memorabilia in the US. As the tail unfolds it becomes more and more unbelieveable ~ what really is amazing are the two guys who introduce themselves at the end of the movie.. yes the real Gary Shoefield and Ray Santilli are the directors of the film.
