As today was my last (full) day in Bristol, I decided to stay in the city visiting some new landmarks and some old ones. My first visit was the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, a bit of a trek from the apartment…
… past the College Green,
… the Council House, up the hill…
… to the University of Bristol Wills Memorial Building, the museum is next door…
… yes, its a BANKSY – I wonder how many visitors simply miss this “Paint Pot Angel”…
… “LOOK! Its a moose, no DEER (actually)…”
That concludes the whirlwind visit to the museum…
I mentioned on my last visit that fantastic MP3 guided tours you can download from the ‘Visit Bristol’ website; the last on on my list was – “The Slave Trade Trail”.
I won’t go into the detail, but slave trading in Bristol was rife, and a lot of money was made from it!
Again, I’ll try not to bore you with the details, but here are some photo’s for you to browse…
… I have no idea what this building is, but it looked quite out of place…
… this is one of four brass tables located outside “The Exchange” on Corn Street…
Deals could be closed by payment on the nails—the popularly supposed origin of the saying “pay on the nail” or “cash on the nail”, However, this origin of the term is disputed.
… and so the tour continues…
… St. Mary Redcliffe’s Church…
… The Ostrich Inn where I had a pint, pop in and find the secret cave, check this video of paranormal investigation within the pub itself…
After a refreshing pint, it was back along the harbour to the apartment, stopping only briefly for a ice cream…
Upon arrival, I watched the sun set for the last time over the horizon with the SS Great Britain, slowly melting into the shadows.
