Throughout my holiday in central Paris, I’ve been using my technology. I’ve been using a number of iPhone applications which use local databases and GPS to route you around the city, find the nearest metro’s etc. There have been a number of digital guides I’ve used as well, later I’ll post some of the ones I’ve used and how to reduce data charges and increase battery time.
After a great breakfast; thanks Sofitel – I was ready to go…
The day started of dark and threatening but I was determined to get out… using Rick Steves’ Historic Paris Walk for the iPhone and Touch was the walk around the Notre-Dame area…
… check out the people being judged (below), the devil is trying to tip the scales…
… while the gargoyles look on…
… leaving Notre-Dame crossing the river past the many book stalls I discovered Medieval Paris, and the Latin Quarter….
… this is the narrowest building in Paris, just 2 windows wide (almost)…
… this is part of the the giant Palais de Justice, here they dished out the justice, condemning many to imprisonment in the Conciegerie downstairs or to the guillotine.
After a short break at the hotel, I jumped on the Metro to Montmartre a hill 130m high which gives the district its name. To be honest it was a bit of a hike up the stone steps…
At the very top of Montmartre is the Basilique du Sacre Coeur a church dedicated to the Sacred Heart.
… after paying respects it was on to Place du Tertre, or the artists square…
I picked up a nice little original from a artist for 60€ will try and get a shot for you when I get home.
I stumbled upon a road train tour which went around Montmartre and its neighbouring districts, passing along the red light district we pulled up outside a building that needed no introduction;
… returning to Basilique du Sacre Coeur, it was great to see the skies had cleared giving excellent views of Paris below;
… finally a quick trip down the hill on the Montmartre Funicular and back to the hotel…
… tomorrow is my last day in Paris – can’t wait to see what happens.
