Well, here is a late post for day 4; the WIFI is a bit poor on the west side of the island, and there is no 3G so I cannot connect via my three USB dongle!
I woke not to sound of bikes, but the crash of the waves and brilliant sunshine coming through the crack in the curtains, already it was warming up in the room.
I spent more time on the Eastern side of the island today; went along the bottom of the island through St. Lawrence;
Arrived at Ventnor about 11am and found myself a parking place; I had already bought a 7day parking permit so I didn’t have to bother about change for the pay and display.
I really don’t know if it was the place where they prepared fresh fish every morning or something else but the marina end of the beech just smelt awful.
So swiftly moving on; the esplanade is some thirty feet below the main high street of the town, a steep winding road at either end get’s you back to civilisation. Just to give you an idea the incline at one side of the esplanade is 25%! (steep).
Ventnor has it’s own bandstand; I tried out some arty shots, just to impress Agent Smith, tell me what you think…
… continuing the arty picture, here are some showing the waterfall under the arch;
The shots above involved holding the camera at the bottom of the fall, pointing it upwards and taking the picture – I couldn’t see what I was taking – but I think I’m getting better. BTW, yes the camera did get a little wet…
In the next picture you can get a rough idea of scale; right at the top you can see a wishing well and someone looking down…
Just in case anyone forgot where they were;
Quick jaunt East again and I was in Sandown;
Sandown pier; “A whole days fun, in one” – hmmm, I think not.
They have most things at Sandown, just not the best things – but they have pedaloes…
Jumped in the car, and drove down to the Isle of Wight Zoo (just past the Dinosaur museum). The zoo itself is quite famous and has it’s own TV show on ITV1 called “Tiger Island”, but like all good zoos it not just about the big cats;
But now it’s time for the BIG CATS; they all have names of course…
When I first saw this guy, I thought it wasn’t real; I’m not sure if it was the size or the perfect smoothness of his coat I simply couldn’t believe it until I saw him move.
Of course the white (not WIGHT) tiger;
… and her sister…
Myself? I prefer the Leopards…
Lions…
more tigers…
… a very full day; so I went back to the hotel to tend to my sunburn – will I ever learn?
