Weekend changes

Changes have been made, we are now in BST (British Summer Time). The days become longer and the nights shorter. They say summers going to be hot so I’m going to be keeping my eyes open for my own ac for my room.
Had some plans for the weekend, sorting out the home business and clarifying the services I provide. Still haven’t migrated my laptop to the iMac yet; torn between using MS Entourage or Apples own email, adress and calendar products.
Need to pull my finger out really, I have so many projects bubbling I need to get started.
Scream if you wanna go faster
Introducing 20Mb Broadband for XL customers
From May 2007, our flagship XL broadband service is going to be twice the speed it used to be – up to a supersonic 20Mb. Although the existing 10Mb service is already four times faster than other industry players , we’ve decided to step on the gas and double the speed.
That means you’ll be able to download an MP3 track in 2 seconds, a full
album in less than 30 seconds, or an episode of your favorite TV show
in just two and a half minutes. Pretty speedy, eh?
We’re even turbo-charging our upload speeds to 768kbps, so you’ll be
able to send emails or upload photos 50% faster than before.
If you’re already a Broadband XL customer, we’ll upgrade you
automatically but you may have to wait just a little while as we can
only boost one region at a time.

VW Beetle Update
Well the good news is I have my Beetle is back – it wasn’t the o2 sensor (although that mybe still faulty – time will tell), it was one of the four ignition coils. With that replaced the little Beetle is running like a charm again. The cost? only £164 – bargin.
Ok, it’s gone!
On the way home today my poor little Beetle had the wind taken from its sails – power dropped, the engine choked and the engine management light flashed like a possessed firefly. I drove my poor little car home (about a mile), lurching and spluttering all the way; very poorly indeed. I attached the diagnostic tool to the car and prepared for the worst.
The laptop booted, and the Beetle sung its misery through its attached USB umbilical cord. But there was nothing new; the intermittent Lamba sensor which had begged my attention for the last 12 months still showed – I can only assume the sensor has progressed from intermittent to failed. Reading through the results from a Google search it seems almost a guaranteed cert that it’s the failed item, giving symptoms similar to the recent "bad fuel" problems with Superstore garages. Admittedly I did fill up, but it was at a BP garage yesterday (Friday).
Just need to check in with the garage on Monday to see if they can fit me in; typically Dad has just started to drive again otherwise I could be using his car until it’s fixed. Unbelievably my road tax is also up for renewal at the end of the month – jeez £190 for what?!, answers on a postcard please!
Cuts

Had my hair cut today, and once again experienced the differences between a ‘barber’ and a ‘hairdresser’. I went in and exchanged the usual greetings, even though I’d nevr been there before.. Apparently it was the owner son that was cutting my hair, and the shop had been in the family for 30+ years, the building itself looked a lot older, in a classic way rather than a delepadated way. It was situated on the corner of a cobbled street in Croydon, tucked down a side street.
Anyhow, I asked for it to be tidied up around the back and sides, take little off the top; those who know me know I don’t have a lot to play with! Anyhow the back and sides were great, but the top was a little shorter than I wanted. I think its always a bit of a risk taking a haircut, after all its not like you can put it back if you’ve cut too much off… Oh well, it’ll grow back (fingers crossed).
Out of interest I looked up ‘barber’ in Wikipedia; explains a lot…
A barber (from the Latin barba, "beard") is someone whose occupation is to cut any type of hair, give shaves, and trim beards. A barber differs from a hairdresser whose business is generally restricted to cutting and styling hair. In previous times, barbers also performed surgery. In more recent times, with the development of safety razors and the increasing popularity of cleanshaven men, most barbers primarily cut hair.
Therefore, although many may still deal with facial hair when requested, the predominant difference in American and Commonwealth culture is that barbers specialize in the simple cutting of men’s hair. They do not generally offer significant styling or ‘fancy’ haircuts when compared to hairdressers working in hair salons. In recent years, larger numbers of women have been going to a barber for their haircuts, especially when they choose to have their hair cut very short or shaved primarily due to the generally lower cost of barbershops."
